The recall of nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products affects items sold at major stores nationwide, including Trader Joe's, Wegmans, 7-Eleven and Kroger.

Brewpack, producer of pre-cooked meat and poultry, Initiate recall Products tested by the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service on Wednesday tested positive for the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Some damaged produce may still be on store shelves, in refrigerators or in consumers' homes, the Department of Agriculture said. It urged businesses not to sell any remaining products that may be affected and asked consumers to throw away or return any recalled items they may have. BrucePac has not indicated whether consumers will be eligible for refunds or discounts.

The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Listeria infection poses the greatest risk to those who are elderly, have weakened immune systems, or are pregnant.
